The Center for Advanced Defense Studies is soliciting paper contributions for the Descartes Conference on Mathematical Models in Counterterrorism, to be held September 28 through 29 in Washington, DC. Hosted by the Center, this year's Conference honors distinguished scientist Dr. Vladimir Lefebvre.

Conference papers should address topics relevant to the Conference's interests: the application of mathematics in the development of counterterrorism, defense and security methods; and the relevance of mathematics in enhancing local, national and global security.

The main themes of the conference include:

  • Cognitive psychology, models and reflexive control
  • Order structures, graph theory, lattice theory and formal concept analysis
  • Cognitive linguistics
  • Information retrieval and knowledge discovery
  • Imaging science and surveillance
  • Modeling and agent-based simulation

All papers must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a product of original academic research
  • Present a topic of current or potential future local, national and international relevance
  • Present concepts and suggestions to mathematics and adjacent fields of research

Contributions must be original, previously unpublished academic research articles not exceeding 15 pages, including footnotes but excluding references and appendices. All papers must follow Harvard Style/APA formatting if not containing mathematical formulas and must follow LaTeX formatting if containing mathematical formulas. If submitting a paper that uses LaTeX formatting, please refer to the guidelines and template provided by Springer Verlag.

Once accepted for publication, all papers are copyright protected. The conference proceedings will be published as a book.

Abstracts of papers or articles to be considered for publication in the conference proceedings must first be sent digitally to dcmmc2006 [at] c4ads [dot] org no later than 20:00 EST on August 1, 2006.
