Eric Van Gieson, Ph.D.

Adjuct Professor

Dr. Eric J. Van Gieson is currently the Program Manager for the Special Applications Branch at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Dr. Van Gieson’s Background includes a combination of aerosol collection research, chemical sensor test/evaluation, computational modeling of low Reynolds number flow in mammalian microcirculation, and molecular biology work. Graduate work includes developing and experimentally verifying computational models to predict the effects of altered fluid dynamics within capillaries and other small blood vessels. Previous work experience includes developing an aerosol collection device for the Dragon Eye Advanced Tactical Recce® (DE-ATR®) UAV, with successful deployment in several military operations. He also has 5 years of experience with testing and deploying point chemical sensors for use in outdoor and indoor environments. Most recently, his focus has been on developing capabilities for multi-agent control for unmanned vehicles as well as for modeling applications.
