Edward A. Pennington, J.D.

Since his receiving his J.D. degree from George Mason University, Edward Pennington has practiced exclusively in the field of intellectual property. He serves as head of the Intellectual Property practice group at the Swidler Berlin law firm. Previous to his work with Swidler Berlin, he was the managing partner of Morgan & Finnegan’s Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Pennington has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Virginia State Bar, Intellectual Property Section (1997-2000), and is a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States and bars of the District of Columbia, Virginia, the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the Courts of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the D.C. Circuit and the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Virginia State Bar, Intellectual Property Law Section.

In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Pennington has been engaged over the years in a wide variety of patent and trademark prosecution causes. Notably, he has written and prosecuted over 250 patent applications in a variety of technical fields including computer architecture and software, semiconductor devices and fabrication, radar, lasers, optics and optical systems, acoustic and ultrasonic non-destructive evaluation, internal combustion engines, steam and combustion turbines, medical devices, compositions of matter, ceramics, metallurgy, electric motors, optical communications and switching, analog devices, telecommunication protocols, r.f. transmitters and receivers, antenna design, satellite attitude control, aeronautical structures.
