Employment Announcement

The Center for Advanced Defense Studies is seeking a full-time academic grant writer. The successful candidate will work closely with the various directors at the center and will be responsible for developing and writing grant applications, organizing pertinent data, formally submitting all grant documentation to the appropriate agencies, and tracking execution. The minimum position requirements include a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree and at least 2 years of grant writing and grant administration experience. Qualified candidates must also be able to demonstrate past success in securing competitive grants. Cover letter and resume for this position must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. On November 1, 2009. A writing sample from a previously completed grant proposal is optional but encouraged.

As a §501(c)(3) non-profit, non-governmental organization, the Center for Advanced Defense Studies (CADS) relies on individual, corporate and organizational donations to accomplish its mission.

Partners

The Center has multiple opportunities for organizations to partner with us, be it an academic or research partnership that leads to enhanced educational and sponsored reserach projects, or an industry or government partnership that allows for joint projects that contribute to the Center's operations. Interns

The Center offers an internship program for promising students to contribute to our mission of identifying and implementing peaceful ways to secure, protect and defend individuals, communities, societies and nations.

This stimulating program provides opportunities for growth and applied learning in the nation’s capital. Interns gain key experience to build their future careers. The program also encourages participation in peace- and security-building projects of national and international significance. Interns join a team of dedicated professionals working to advance defense and security issues through innovative and strategic thinking.

Appointments

CADS Researchers and Fellows represent a vast pool of knowledge, experience, and promise. With positions ranging from Research Associate to Senior Fellow, CADS is home to a vast array of talent—from innovative college students to renowned experts in their fields. Being appointed to one of these positions allows for interaction with the Center’s staff and ground-floor involvement with CADS initiatives. The appointment is also recognized around the world as a position of honor and respect.

Individuals may apply for consideration for an honorary appointment as a Researcher or Fellow with the Center for Advanced Defense Studies by submitting the following by mail:

  • résumé or CV
  • a letter of introduction highlighting both interest in and value to CADS
  • three (3) references (at least one of whom should be currently affiliated with the Center).

Individuals may also be nominated by a CADS director or senior officer, a CADS Fellow or Senior Fellow, or by a member of the Board of Directors or one of the supporting Advisory Boards. Each quarter, a selection committee of seven people—chaired by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and consisting of two other Board or Advisory Board members, two current Fellows or Senior Fellows, and two CADS directors or senior officers—will review the nominations and applications, and notify individuals selected for appointment. Appointments start on the first day of January, April, July, or October and are renewable each year.
