Outreach/Marketing Internship

Program Purpose:

The Center for Advanced Defense Studies is searching for an intern to focus, develop, and implement outreach and market ideas to bring greater awareness about our organization and its mission. Other responsibilities include public relations activities, coordination of visiting CADS partners, presentation collaboration and organization and distribution of incoming CADS communications. This internship requires a time commitment of 10-20 hours per week. The duration of the internship depends on the commitment of the applicant, but can be filled immediately. Undergraduate and Graduate students, as well as recent graduates, are welcome to apply.

Interns will gain valuable experience working through CADS. These experiences include understanding how a non-profit, non-governmental organization runs and interacts within the Washington DC environment. Interns will also develop their intrapersonal skills, communication abilities, marketing programs and general work experience.

Before Applying

Please keep in mind that this is a non-paid position, but can be used for academic credit pending approval from your academic institution. Also, accepted applicants will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement before beginning their internship. If you feel that you cannot sign the non-disclosure agreement, we can not accept your application. At this time, CADS can not accept applications for interns from outside of the United States.

Application Process

To apply please complete the application form, review (but do not sign) the non-disclosure agreement, and submit all necessary documents (see checklist below).

  • Personal Statement about why you want to intern at CADS
  • Unofficial transcript
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae outlining past professional and educational experience
  • Letter of Recommendation (at least one)

Application Deadlines

The internship application does not carry any deadlines as acceptance into the internship program occurs year round on a rolling basis. In order to provide the best experience for all interns at the Center, the number of interns at one time is limited. Interested candidates are therefore encouraged to apply immediately.

The Center will not accept incomplete or partially complete applications. Please mail application materials in their entirety.

Interviews

The Center will schedule interviews with qualified candidates. CADS will attempt to conduct all interviews through an in-person office visit, although phone interviews are available for applicants who do not reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Notification

The Center's internship committee will notify all accepted applicants of its decision via phone and/or email. Applicants not accepted will NOT receive a notification.

Program Orientation

Upon participant's arrival in D.C. and program commencement, CADS will provide an orientation session. During this session, interns will meet their supervisors. The Center will also outline projects and discuss and distribute work plans.

During the course of the program CADS will conduct weekly progress reviews. Towards the end of the program, interns must prepare final presentations and reports for submission. Distinguished projects will receive certificates of recognition.
