The RIT/CADS Masters of Science in Professional Studies (CDPS) program features courses in Cyber Security, WMD Defense and Counterterrorism. CDPS program courses are taught at the CADS headquarters in Washington, DC by experts and CADS faculty members. Distinguished guest speakers with backgrounds in government, academia, and industry will offer presentations during select sessions.
Key Teaching Faculty
Newton Howard, Ph.D.
Chairman and Founder of the Center for Advanced Defense Studies, Dr. Howard is a research professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology and at several other academic institutions in France and the US. An Advisor to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a distinguished scientist on Intelligence Analysis, Information Operations and Cyber Security for the Homeland Security Policy Research Institute, Professor Howard has received multiple awards, including the Global War on Terrorism, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. He was nominated for White House Fellow of the Year in 2001 and 2003.
Mathieu Guidère, Ph.D.
A leading researcher on cognitive linguistics and its applications to defense and security, Dr. Mathieu Guidère was awarded a Fulbright Grant to pursue research at the Center's Radicalization Watch Project. Dr. Guidère is an associate professor at the University of Lyon II (France) and teaches Arabic history, culture and dialects to military personel at the French military academy Saint-Cyr. He is also an advisor to the French Ministry of Defense. A graduate of the Faculty of Languages at the University of Toulouse II, Dr. Guidère holds two Masters degrees and a Doctoral degree in Computational Linguistics from La Sorbonne (France).
Charles Young, Ph.D.
Dr. Charles Young brings to the Center over 15 years of experience in the biodefense industry. Serving as the Technical Director of the Homeland Secuirty Division at BioVeris, Dr. Young led the efforts to advance research and development in detection and measurement of biological and chemical substances. He recently decided to focus more on academia and jointed the National Security and Technology Department, Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Young holds two patents in detection methodologies and has written extensively on the subject.

Hon. R. James Woolsey, Jr.
Former CIA Director James Woolsey is a Foundation for Defense of Democracies distinguished adivsor. He has held numerous presidential appointments during his 12-year government career and was a partner at the Shea & Gardner law firm.
Jerrold Post, M.D.
A Professor of Psychiatry, Political Psychology and International Affairs at The George Washington University (GWU) and a Senior Fellow at the Center for Advanced Defense Studies(CADS), Dr. Jerrold Post has devoted his entire career to political psychology. Dr. Post came to GWU after a 21-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) where he founded and directed the Center for the Analysis of Personality and Political Behavior. Dr. Post was awarded the Intelligence Medal of Merit in 1979, and received the Studies in Intelligence Award in 1980. As a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), he has been elected to the American College of Psychiatrists and is currently Chair, Task Force for National and International Terrorism and Violence for the APA.
Gideon Frieder, D.Sc.
Dr. Gideon Frieder is the A. James Clark Professor of Engineering and Applied Science at The George Washington University. His specialty areas include computer architecture, hardware/software interface, computational methods, complex system design and simulation, graphics and medical imaging, and intellectual property law.
