CSCI-175, Information Policy

Course catalog description: This course examines issues related to computers and privacy, equity, freedom of speech, search and seizure, access to personal and governmental information, professional responsibilities, ethics, criminality, and law enforcement. Examines issues using the multiple dimensions view of information policy, i.e., taking into consideration administrative, financial, and human aspects of creating a policy. The goals of this course are:

  • To understand the various forces that drive the development of information policy.
  • Understand what the dimensions of information policy are and how to analyze them in order to create a complete policy.
  • To understand the issues relative to information policy and their relation to the goals of society and government.
  • To analyze governmental regulation and commercial practices related to the use of information, and to understand the outcomes of these practices.

The course is available to currently enrolled students of The George Washington University.
